WTOP News | Health care workers in DC area authorize strike against Kaiser Permanente, joining thousands across the nation

OPEIU Local 2 union healthcare workers from Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia threaten to strike at the end of the month against Kaiser Permanente as they fail to make an agreement on a new contract that addresses staffing shortages and low pay. The union argues that decisions from Kaiser Permanente executives have contributed to the staff issues, including cutting bonuses for frontline workers, insufficiently raising wages to match the rising cost of living and offering low wages for entry-level workers that are not competitive with fast food service or retail work. Kaiser Permanente said that the strike authorization vote was “a disappointing action,” but stated that they were confident the two parties could come to an agreement before the end of the month.
